A prototype from my thesis 'Talking to the Hand',
InforTerrain 2 is a metamorphic interface, a sort of mouse/touch panel hybrid, merging together a mouse functionality (hand to pointer mapping) with a touch pad functionality (finger tracking).
InforTerrain 2 is composed of an array of movable pins embedded in a palm-size disc, capable of dynamicaly rendering shape occurrences such as bumps and grooves.
It aims at emulating "buttons" with designated shape and animation, in correlation with what is displayed on screen.
The idea is that if buttons appear when they are needed, and their shape and behavior are unique to that appearance, they can inform the user when & how to perform. |
