When Bubo first arrives at a child's house, he carries a letter from a forgotten land that tells about his legacy as an owl in the service of wizards and his ability to cast spells. It also hints on how to interact with the owl.
The child can discover the spells stored in Bubo's memory by exploring for IR emissions to trigger Bubo's learning mechanism. When he finds one, he quickly needs to cast the newly learned spell, otherwise Bubo will not remember it.
When two owls meet, they sense each other presence & can engage in a wizardry battle for superiority. Once an owl is cast by a spell, it is "possessed" with a specific audio / tactile feedback until the child casts the right counter spell. |
