| In child development, around the age of 6+, a need for control and mastery emerges. The fulfillment of this need is dependent upon a balance between exerting control and a sense of mastery: "it is difficult for a boy to experience a sense of mastery without some control over a play process or interaction".
Turning the real environment into a playground was a fascinating idea for us. It led us to think about toy to toy and toy to its surroundings interactions. We set our play context on mastery by gaining control over this environment, and focused on an experience that would provide children's with an explorative and imaginative play experience in the real world. |
